Description
Kraak ware is almost all painted in the under-glazed cobalt blue style that was perfected under the Ming dynasty. It is often decorated with variations on the more traditional motifs found on Chinese porcelain, such as stylised flowers (peonies and chrysanthemums) and calligraphy characters. However, most characteristic of Kraak decoration is the use of foliated radial panels. Shapes included dishes, bowls, teapots and vases. This porcelain plate main decorative motifs are Chinese auspicious symbols wishing for good and long life.
